Funding criteria 

The following will be taken into account when assessing applications:  

  • A clear artistic vision and a creative, imaginative programme of high-quality events. 
  • The use of Irish is central in the approach and presentation of the festival. 
  • A clear plan to attract, grow, and develop audiences and participants, with particular emphasis on engagement with the Gaeltacht community.
  • Participation of professional artists in the festival, paid appropriate professional fees.
  • Management and administrative ability which will take into account the experience of the person/group, structure, and field of expertise and specialisation. 
  • A plan for the evaluation, development and continuous improvement of the festival and to report on the festival when it is finished. 
  • Evidence that the festival is rooted in the local context and will contribute to the development of the arts and the strengthening of specific artistic fields locally and regionally.
  • Evidence of additional sources of funding or support, including grants, sponsorship, venue provision, voluntary input, or other benefits in kind.

Please note 

  • Applications will not be accepted from organisations receiving funding through Cothú.
  • Funding under this scheme may not be used for any aspect related to competition within a festival.

Funding Available

A maximum award of €15,000 is available. Applications for the scheme will be assessed based on the above criteria. This scheme is competitive and has a limited budget.  

Grant Conditions 

  • Any funding approved must be claimed within a period of 18 months. If the funding is not claimed within this period, it will be cancelled. 
  • It is essential for all organisations involved with children and young people to have a Child Protection Policy with a Child Protection Statement, Risk Assessment and the appropriate procedures in place, which adhere to the guidelines as set out in the Children First Act 2015. 

Application Process 

The application form must be fully completed and submitted, along with all supporting material, by the scheme deadline.

The form must be signed by:

  • The Chairperson of the Committee or Director of the Organisation, and
  • A witness (another committee member or a member of the organisation’s team).
